Winter Container Workshop — November 28, November 29 and December 5

Brighten your porch through the winter months. Choose from a selection of evergreens and decorative accents and build your own container — cedar and pine boughs, winterberry branches, pinecones and the like — with help at the table. $50 per container, which includes the container and materials; additional items are available for purchase that day. Everyone in the class gets 20% off any other purchases made on the day of the workshop. Sessions are at 2:00 PM on Saturday November 28, Sunday November 29 and Saturday December 5 — pick the day that works.

Winter Wreath Class — Saturday, November 28

Learn to craft a beautiful winter wreath in this hands-on class. You'll work with a 12-inch grapevine base and arrange mixed fresh evergreens and natural fillers to create your own seasonal masterpiece. Faux berry picks and decorative ribbon are available for purchase during class to personalize your design. Perfect for gift-giving or brightening your home for the holidays. $75 per person. Session at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 28.

Container Gardening Class — March 20, March 27 and April 3

Our spring Container Gardening Class, now in its 20th year. $40 per person. Bring up to three pots of your own, or we'll provide three at no extra cost. You'll watch a demonstration of proper planting techniques, see new plant varieties, choose the plants you like, then plant your container and leave it with us — we care for it until it's safe to take home, and you pick it up by Mother's Day Weekend. Sessions start at 10am and 2pm on March 20, March 27 and April 3; pick the day and time that works. Plants aren't included in the $40 fee and are charged at the end of class. Class fees are non-refundable. If you bring your own pots there may be a fee for additional soil if your pots use more soil than what we provide in class.

Dinner in the Prairie — Saturday, September 12

An evening where nature sets the table. Long tables are set right on the trails of our three-acre prairie, surrounded by wildflowers, with live classical musicians playing from within the grasses. Shop the gardens and greenhouses from 3:00–5:00 PM at 25% off, then a welcome Apple Cider Mule at 5:00 PM with appetizers, dinner at 6:00 PM, and dessert by the barn firepit at sunset. Choose hand-cut beef tenderloin with garlic herb butter or herb-marinated chicken breast, with apple harvest salad, steakhouse mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and green beans, and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. $85 per guest. Cash bar available. Prairie-casual attire — comfortable shoes for the trails. If the weather turns, dinner moves into the barn.

Reminder: new plantings need water into the fall

Anything planted this year still needs a deep soak every week or so until the ground freezes — slow water at the base, not a sprinkler. It's the single biggest reason a new tree makes it or doesn't.

Fall is the best tree-planting window of the year

Cool air, warm soil, and fall rain mean a tree spends the whole winter putting down roots instead of holding leaves. If you've been putting off a shade tree, this is the season to do it. Come walk the tree rows and we'll help you load it.

You don't need an appointment and you don't have to buy anything. Come look at mature sizes, take pictures, ask questions. We'd rather you see a tree in person than pick one off a screen.
